YouTube SEO Secrets Class - 2024 Beginner to Advanced Guide thumbnail

A padded but practical primer on YouTube keyword research and channel setup, better for total beginners than working creators.

Structure and what it actually covers

The course moves in a straight line: define YouTube SEO, explain a four-step funnel of visibility, capture, retention, and monetization, then optimize the channel itself (name, About section, tags, banner art, custom URL, a "subscribe" link trick), then optimize content (planning, keyword research, thumbnails, titles, descriptions, hashtags), and finish with monetization mechanics through Google AdSense. Across roughly fifty lessons and 280 minutes, the arc is coherent even when individual lessons run long. Beginners who have never touched YouTube Studio will come out with a working mental model of why a channel needs a strategy before it needs more videos.

The genuinely useful parts

The keyword section holds up the best. It frames keyword selection as a two-axis problem, search volume against competition, and then walks through a free workaround using Answer the Public plus a manual check of YouTube's own search results to see how many competing videos actually match a given phrase in their title. That manual competition check, comparing a candidate phrase like "blogging vs Instagram" against what's already ranking, is a technique a beginner can copy immediately without paying for a keyword tool.

The competitor-thumbnail exercise is similarly concrete. Rather than telling students to "make good thumbnails," it has them pull several channels in and adjacent to their niche, note recurring patterns such as split-image thumbnails or the presence of a year in every title, and adapt those patterns to their own content. It's simple, mildly formulaic, and exactly the kind of task a total beginner benefits from having spelled out.

The monetization section is more careful than most beginner content on this topic. It specifies the subscriber and watch-hour thresholds, walks through connecting AdSense, and gives a clear opinion on ad placement, avoiding non-skippable ads entirely and reserving mid-roll ads for videos over roughly 45 minutes because interrupting a short video increases the chance a viewer leaves.

Where the course thins out

The pacing suffers from significant repetition. The funnel concept gets re-explained across multiple lessons, and transitional filler recurs constantly, which stretches run time without adding new information. The instructor's credibility claims are vague, generating "thousands of dollars a month," with no specifics offered within the lessons themselves to substantiate the scale or recency of that income.

More importantly, the course leans on eyeballing search results and screenshots rather than teaching students to read YouTube Studio's own analytics, things like audience retention curves or click-through rate by thumbnail, which are the actual feedback loop a channel needs once it has some data to work with. For a course built entirely around search visibility, the absence of that analytics layer is a real gap, not just an omission. It also shows its age: the core material predates the "2024" framing in its title, and platform specifics like monetization thresholds are the kind of detail that drifts over time.

Taken together, this is a serviceable checklist for someone starting a channel from absolute zero, not a growth playbook for someone already publishing.

The standout

The most useful single lesson is the competitor thumbnail-and-title audit, which has students log the visual and title patterns behind top-performing videos on three to five channels, including ones outside their own niche, and adapt those patterns instead of guessing at ideas from scratch.

What you will learn

  • How to research keywords for free using a search-volume-versus-competition method, demonstrated with the Answer the Public tool
  • How to fill out a channel 'About' section, custom URL, and channel tags using provided templates
  • How to reverse-engineer thumbnail and title patterns by auditing three to five competitor channels inside and outside your niche
  • How to structure a video description with playlist links, social links, affiliate disclosures, and one to three hashtags
  • How to set up Google AdSense monetization and choose ad type and placement based on video length
  • How the visibility-capture-retain-monetize funnel is meant to explain why keywords, thumbnails, and content quality matter in that order

Best for: Complete beginners who have never uploaded a video and want a checklist for naming, describing, and thumbnailing a channel from zero.

Skip it if: Anyone who already understands basic keyword research, established creators looking to grow past a plateau, or viewers who want data-backed results instead of instructor anecdotes and screen recordings.
