How to Make Instagram Quotes for Massive Growth thumbnail

A 15-minute walkthrough of making Canva quote graphics for Instagram, useful as a first step but too thin to deliver on its 'massive growth' promise.

New to Skillshare? Your first month is free, enough to take this course at no cost.

What it actually covers

The course opens with a short pitch about why quote images work on Instagram, then spends its middle stretch inside Canva, and closes with a publishing demo. The arc is: explain the format, build one in Canva, post it. That is the entire course. Five lessons carry the real content, and two of the six (the trailer-style opener and the closing lesson) are mostly Skillshare housekeeping, asking students to introduce themselves in the project section and to leave a review before they leave.

The conceptual lesson on what makes a quote image work is the most substantive part. It touches on picking a niche rather than posting random quotes, matching visual style to audience, and the reminder to verify a quote's actual source before attributing it to someone, since misattributed quote images are common. It is sound, basic advice, delivered in a couple of minutes.

The Canva walkthrough

The design lesson is a screen-recorded tour of Canva's Instagram post template, at 1080x1080 pixels. It covers swapping text, changing colors and fonts, applying image filters, dragging in a new background from Canva's free element library, and the distinction between free templates and the ones that cost a dollar. None of this is wrong, but none of it is specific to Instagram quotes either. It is a generic Canva orientation, which tracks with the fact that the instructor's other listed courses are almost entirely Canva tutorials. Students who have used Canva before, even briefly, will find nothing new here.

The publishing lesson shows the two realistic paths: sharing directly from Canva's mobile app into Instagram, or exporting a JPG or PNG and uploading manually. It briefly notes the importance of using hashtags relevant to the target audience, but stops short of any concrete hashtag research method, posting frequency, or engagement tactic.

Where it falls short

The course title promises "massive growth," but growth mechanics are essentially absent. There is no discussion of hashtag strategy beyond "use appropriate ones," no mention of posting schedule, analytics, engagement tactics, collaborations, or how quote accounts actually scale a following over time. A brief on-screen reference to an account nearing a million followers is used as proof the format works, but the course never unpacks what that account did differently. The gap between the title and the content is the biggest issue here.

At 15 minutes, the course also can't be judged as a failure of depth so much as a mismatch of scope. It is really a "make one quote graphic in Canva" tutorial with a growth-oriented title attached. Anyone coming in wanting genuine Instagram growth strategy will finish disappointed. Anyone who has never touched Canva and wants to see the free template workflow start to finish will get exactly that, quickly and without friction. The value is real but narrow, and the course would be more honestly titled around Canva basics for quote graphics rather than growth.

The standout

Publishing straight from the Canva mobile app to Instagram, without exporting and re-uploading, is the one workflow shortcut worth taking away.

What you will learn

  • What Instagram quote images are and why they perform well on a photo-first platform
  • How to pick or write a quote and choose a visual style that fits a niche audience
  • How to use Canva's free templates, filters, fonts, colors, and background images to build a quote graphic
  • How to sync a design between Canva's desktop site and its mobile app
  • How to add captions and hashtags and publish a finished quote image directly to Instagram from Canva

Best for: A total beginner who has never opened Canva and just wants a fast, no-cost way to produce a single Instagram quote graphic.

Skip it if: Anyone who already knows Canva, or anyone expecting actual growth tactics like hashtag strategy, posting cadence, engagement, or audience-building beyond 'pick a niche'.
