What it actually teaches

The portfolio base is the strongest section. It covers field types like single select for status, multi-select for subject matter, and attachments for thumbnails, and it explains a real editorial decision: why category and subject matter exist as two separate columns even though they look redundant at first glance. That kind of reasoning, not just button-clicking, is what separates this from a generic software tutorial.

Where the depth lives, and where it thins out

The client tracker section is where the course earns its keep for freelancers specifically. The "last contact" date field paired with sorting is a genuinely useful workflow for anyone emailing clients in batches, and the explanation of why some contacts get moved to a "stop contact" status adds real business judgment rather than just app mechanics.

The linked records concept, Airtable's signature feature, gets explained conceptually early on but isn't actually demonstrated until a bonus lesson tacked on two years after the original release. That lesson is clear and useful once it arrives, but its placement as an afterthought suggests the original class structure had a real gap that only got patched later rather than planned for.

The project calendar section is the thinnest, covering the projects and tasks tables and the calendar view in a single short lesson before pivoting to a rapid-fire list of other possible use cases: inventory, income tracking, health goals, and moving logistics. These are mentioned rather than built, which is fine as inspiration but won't teach technique.

Verdict

This is not a comprehensive Airtable course, and it doesn't try to be. It skips most of Airtable's advanced tooling, covers only the free plan, and moves quickly enough that some concepts are described before they're shown. What it does well is translate Airtable's flexibility into a specific, opinionated system for a specific kind of business, which is exactly what makes it useful for the audience it's aimed at. A freelance artist staring at scattered files and contracts will walk away with a template worth copying almost exactly. Someone who wants a systematic tour of Airtable's full feature set, or who already has an organizational system and wants to level up on formulas, automations, or advanced views, will find this too narrow and should look toward the advanced follow-up class instead.
