What the course actually covers

Where it falls short

The course is explicit about its limits, and that honesty is both a strength and a weakness. For the harder expressions, counter parent rotation and counter parent scale especially, the instruction is essentially "save this and paste it when you need it," with an acknowledgment that the underlying JavaScript won't be explained. That's a defensible choice for an intro class, but it means a chunk of the eleven expressions are used as black boxes rather than understood, which limits what a learner can do when the exact scenario doesn't match the examples given.

The pacing also runs uneven. Wiggle gets an extended treatment with multiple variations (axis locking, positive-only clamping, scale without stretch), while other expressions get a single pass and one or two use cases before moving on. At 88 minutes for eleven distinct techniques plus intro and wrap-up, the later lessons compress fast, and posterize time and the linear expression in particular would benefit from more worked examples.

Bottom line

This is a practical, well-organized reference course rather than a conceptual one. It succeeds at its stated goal: giving motion designers a toolkit of expressions to recognize, apply, and adapt without first learning to code. The project file and letter-by-letter demo give it a consistent through-line, and the graph editor comparisons for loop types are a genuinely good teaching choice. Anyone already comfortable with After Effects fundamentals who wants to cut down on repetitive keyframing will get real, immediately usable value out of it. Anyone hoping this doubles as a first step toward writing custom JavaScript expressions should treat it as a vocabulary lesson, not a coding one, since the class defers that explanation by design.
