## A founder's-eye view, not a how-to manual

Alicia Souza built her online store from a flea market table to a company with its own logistics staff, and this course reads like a debrief of that decade rather than a structured curriculum. Across nine short lessons she moves from the legal skeleton of a business (registration, trademark, GST filing, a bank account and payment gateway) through pricing, shipping, branding, the Shopify build, and finally social media. The arc makes sense on paper: start a business, cost it correctly, produce and ship the goods, dress it up, put it online, then bring people to it. In practice, each lesson is closer to a reflective monologue with a checklist tacked on at the end than a demonstration of the work itself.

That structure is both the course's appeal and its ceiling. Souza is candid about the parts of entrepreneurship nobody romanticizes: partner conflicts that sink businesses, the stress of running a store solo while freelancing, the courier company that becomes unreliable the moment a package leaves her hands. She is specific about her own operation, naming Shopify, the payment gateways Razorpay and CCAvenue, and a courier aggregator called Pickrr, which gives the course a grounded, real-business texture that generic startup content lacks.

## Where the substance thins out

The pricing lesson is the strongest stretch of the course because it names the actual cost categories most beginners miss: packaging, carriage, storage, and the hidden costs of breakage and returns, alongside marketing line items like photography and paid influencer partnerships. It is conceptually solid even though the promised worksheet does the heavy lifting rather than the lesson itself.

Elsewhere, the course leans on assertion more than instruction. The Shopify segment describes drag-and-drop simplicity and a 14-day trial but never demonstrates adding a product, setting up a collection, or configuring the analytics dashboard it praises. The branding lesson is a solid framework for thinking about visual identity, brand voice, and backstory, but it stays at the level of questions to ask yourself rather than a worked example of building one. The social media lesson mixes useful specifics, using Instagram Stories for behind-the-scenes process content, running giveaways to build an email list, with vaguer advice about posting consistently and finding a voice.

Geography also narrows the course's usefulness. The business-formation lesson is built around Indian systems: GST registration, a chartered accountant, Razorpay, Pickrr. A shopkeeper in another country will need to translate every step, which the course does not attempt to do.

At 30 minutes for nine lessons, nothing gets more than a few minutes of airtime, so this plays better as an orientation than a tutorial. Anyone wanting to know what running an online shop actually involves, categories to plan for, decisions to anticipate, mistakes to avoid, will get real value from Souza's experience. Anyone wanting to leave with a functioning store, a completed pricing sheet, or a built-out Shopify page will need to source that instruction elsewhere. The course is honest about what it is: a founder sharing hard-won context, not a software or marketing tutorial dressed up as one.

 The standout

The walkthrough of pricing a product by stacking manufacturing, packaging, shipping, storage, and often-forgotten costs like breakage and returns is the most immediately usable piece of the course.

## What you will learn

- · How to sequence the legal and financial setup steps of a business: registration, domain, trademark, GST, bank account, and payment gateway
- · How to build a full product cost structure that accounts for hidden costs like breakages, returns, and packaging, not just manufacturing price
- · How to evaluate courier and fulfillment options, including aggregators versus premium carriers like FedEx, and third-party marketplaces like Amazon and Etsy
- · How to define a brand's visual identity, name, and backstory, and articulate a clear USP
- · How to set up and structure a Shopify storefront, including product photography and page layout choices
- · How to build a social media content calendar and use Instagram for organic reach, promotions, and influencer partnerships

Best for: A working illustrator or maker with an existing audience who is ready to formalize a side project into a real storefront.

Skip it if: Anyone needing step-by-step platform instruction, a working budget template walked through onscreen, or guidance not centered on the Indian regulatory and courier landscape.
