## A meditation course built for people who hate sitting still

Justin Michael Williams opens by dismantling three assumptions before teaching a single technique: that meditation requires silencing the mind, that it exists to produce relaxation, and that it demands a cross-legged, motionless posture. That reframing is the spine of the whole course. Rather than positioning meditation as a wellness ritual, Williams treats it as a productivity and self-worth tool aimed squarely at people who chronically overachieve and still feel hollow, a description he applies to himself, growing up in a volatile household and later becoming a driven, financially successful twentysomething who realized external success hadn't made him happy.

The ten-day arc moves from vision to execution. Day one has students identify which of six life zones (career, creativity, wellbeing, relationships, financial freedom, and service) most needs attention, using a guided future-self visualization to surface the answer intuitively rather than analytically. The middle days confront what blocks that vision, cataloging seven disguised forms of fear, among them the inner critic's "dissuasion" tactic and a pattern borrowed from Brené Brown called conspiracy, where a single unanswered text becomes a spiraling, evidence-free story. Naming these patterns gives students a vocabulary for self-sabotage that is more specific than most meditation courses bother to offer.

The back half shifts from insight to infrastructure. Students build a personal mantra, called a unique energy signature, and are taught to work with it through four distinct techniques: repeating it slowly syllable by syllable, repeating it quickly and rhythmically, syncing it to inhales and exhales, and finally abandoning words entirely to visualize it as a color, texture, or ball of energy. Williams explicitly frames this as a buffet, telling students to keep what resonates and discard the rest, which is a more honest and useful instruction than most guided programs offer. The course closes with a ritual-design lesson built around three variables, time, place, and a personalizing touch he calls sugar (candles, a crystal, incense), plus a habit-stacking tip to attach the new practice to an existing one like brushing teeth.

### What works

The daily structure, a short talk followed by an audio-only guided practice and a journal prompt, keeps sessions to roughly ten to twenty minutes, which suits people who have failed at longer sitting practices before. The bonus tracks extend the toolkit's shelf life: a four-part gratitude practice split into gratitude in, out, up, and letting go, each done as a timed writing sprint rather than passive reflection, and a closing practice built around an original song addressed to the student's inner child. Both hold up as standalone tools independent of the ten-day arc.

### Where it falls short

The course leans heavily on Williams' personal biography and motivational framing, which will resonate with some students and feel like padding to others who want more direct instruction and less narrative. It also never engages with meditation as a practice of sustained attention or present-moment awareness in the traditional sense, so students hoping to build focus or reduce anxiety through classical mindfulness may find the emphasis on goal visualization and action-planning beside the point. The six life zones and seven fears frameworks, while memorable, are asserted rather than substantiated, and the course cites research only in passing, around gratitude and habit formation, without depth.

Overall, this is a well-constructed on-ramp for a specific kind of student: someone who wants meditation to fuel ambition rather than quiet it, and who needs permission to build a practice that doesn't look like the postcard version of the discipline.

 The standout

The four silent mantra techniques, slow repetition, fast repetition, breath-synced repetition, and visualizing the mantra as a color or energy ball, give a genuinely reusable toolkit for adapting meditation to a wandering mind.

## What you will learn

- · How to identify which of six life zones (career, creativity, wellbeing, relationships, money, service) needs your focus right now
- · How to name and interrupt seven disguised forms of fear, including avoidance, the inner critic, and conspiracy thinking
- · How to create a personal mantra called a unique energy signature and apply it through four silent repetition techniques
- · How to build a lasting daily ritual using the time, place, and sugar framework and habit-stacking
- · How to run a structured four-direction gratitude practice (in, out, up, and letting go) using timed writing sprints
- · How to use breathwork (the three-count breath) and a future-self visualization as a repeatable entry point into practice

Best for: People who have bounced off traditional meditation because it felt like forced stillness, especially goal-driven overachievers who want practice to translate into visible action.

Skip it if: Anyone seeking a clinical mindfulness or breath-anchored attention program, or a teacher who de-emphasizes narrative and self-disclosure in favor of pure technique instruction.
