# Why a three-tier price beats quoting a single number

By Gareth B. Davies · Updated July 2026

A single quote invites a yes or no answer. Three tiers turn the same conversation into a choice about how much value the client wants.

Quote one number and you have handed the prospect a binary decision. They either think it is too expensive or, less often, wonder if it is too cheap to be any good, and either way the only lever they have is to say no or negotiate you down. A three-tier structure removes that trap. The moment there is a cheap option, a middle option, and a premium option, the conversation stops being about whether to buy and becomes about which version to buy. That is a completely different psychological frame, and it is the single biggest reason a well-built tier sheet outperforms a single quote even when the underlying work is identical.

The pattern shows up constantly in the pricing structures coaches actually build with clients. A $3,000 to $14,000 setup range on one proposal. A $4,000, $8,000, $12,000 package ladder built specifically so a client can start small and move up without a new negotiation. A voice agent quoted with a base tier and a premium tier that adds better tech on top of the same core build. None of these exist because the agency owner could not decide on a price. They exist because the middle option needs a cheap neighbor to look reasonable and an expensive neighbor to look like the smart choice, and a solo number can never do that job on its own.

The other reason to build three tiers, and the one agency owners underrate, is that it forces you to actually think through what you are selling before the call. A single price hides a vague offer. Three tiers expose it immediately, because if you cannot describe what changes between the low and high option, you do not have an offer yet, you have a guess. Clients feel that gap even when they cannot name it, and it is why so many single-number quotes stall on "let me think about it." A tier sheet does not just price the work. It proves you understand the work well enough to price it three different ways.
